Requirements:

All third and fourth year doctoral students who are enrolled in the PhD programmes of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities can apply for the positions.

To apply for the position of a junior research fellow, please submit your application to the contact person of the PhD programme. The application must contain the following:

– curriculum vitae;

– list of research publications (if any);

– cover letter, which includes a timetable of the planned completion of the applicant´s thesis semester by semester;

– letter of support from the supervisor, which includes information on the latest progress review report and progress review decision of the doctoral student and an assessment of the doctoral student´s accomplishments in scientific work so far.

The application deadline is May 15, 2021.

Additional information:

In 2017–2021 five application rounds have been planned within this measure. The measure is focused on the third and fourth year doctoral students (at the moment of applying) with the aim of supporting the completion of their studies.

The application round is open for doctoral students who, in addition to their doctoral studies, do not work with a workload exceeding the total load of 1.0. The employment contract may be renewed once, with a prerequisite of re-applying and a positive progress review decision. Junior research fellows must be matriculated to doctoral studies at the University of Tartu, so in the case of deletion from the matriculation register, the employment contract with a junior research fellow will be terminated based on general legal grounds.

The positions are filled in the institutes on the basis of point 4.2 (appointing an employee to a position as the work of the position is temporary by nature) of the Regulations for Recruitment of Teaching and Research Staff. The immediate supervisor of a junior research fellow is the head of the structural unit.

The aim of this measure is to increase the number of completed doctoral studies within the standard period of study (n+2). However, the duties and responsibilities of the junior research fellows have to be distinguished from their doctoral studies and the writing of their thesis. The specific duties can be only temporary.
