An overview of mobility grants for doctoral students

Mobility grants for doctoral students of graduate schools of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities (up to 30 calendar days)


The graduate schools support research-related short-term mobility abroad and in Estonia. The maximum grant is 1500 euros per visit. The mobility grants of graduate schools are based on actual expenses. A doctoral student can apply for a grant up to twice a year.

Applications must be submitted via the Working Environment of Academic Mobility. To log in, use your University of Tartu username and password.

Purpose of travel Reimbursable costs 
  • Research in libraries, archives, research centers; participation in fieldwork
  • Work with the (co)supervisor, research-related consultations
  • Participation in research-related training and events for graduate students (f.ex. summer or winter schools)
  • Other visits directly related to the student's research
     
  • Travel expenses (flight, bus, train)
  • Insurance and visa expenses
  • Accommodation
  • Participation fees of events
  • Daily allowances if the doctoral student is a staff member of the University of Tartu

Kristjan Jaak short study visits (up to 30 days)


The Kristjan Jaak scholarship is for short-term study related visits abroad (up to 30 days). The expenses are compensated as sum of the following unit prices: travel and accommodation expenses, daily allowance (32 EUR per day). The scholarship cannot be used to cover the participation fee.

The application with required annexes must be submitted via the electronic application system.

  • Work with an academic supervisor, consultations 
  • Participation in continuing education courses, summer schools 
  • Travel expenses
  • Accommodation

Kristjan Jaak study periods abroad (1-12 months)


The scholarship supports study periods abroad at a recognized university or research institution abroad for 1-12 months. The scholarship can be used for a maximum of two times during one's doctoral studies, considering that the minimum travel duration is 31 days and the maximum 12 months. The amount of the scholarship is calculated on the basis of unit prices.

The application with required annexes must be submitted via the electronic application system.

Dora Plus short study visits (up to 30 days; T 1.1)


The program supports short-term activities abroad. The amount of the grant is calculated on the daily allowance fixed amount, travel and accommodation expense fixed unit prices. Maximum amount of the grant is 2000 euros. Participation fees will be covered based on actual costs.

The application with required annexes must be submitted via the Working Environment of Academic Mobility.

Dora Plus doctoral students’ mobility (1-10 months; T 1.2)


The program supports the study mobility of doctoral students to universities or research institutions abroad for 1 to 10 months. The grant covers travel costs and accommodation and living costs related to study mobility. The amount of the grant is calculated on the basis of travel and accommodation expense fixed unit prices. The application with all the required annexes must be submitted via the Working Environment of Academic Mobility.
